About the Author

Robert F. Bollendorf EdD, CADC

Robert F. Bollendorf is professor emeritus of Human Services and the director of the Drug Education Center (retired) at College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

Currently he is a licensed clinical psychologist with a private practice in Lisle, Illinois. A native of Wisconsin who still has a cottage there, Dr. Bollendorf was the third person named by the college of DuPage as the Illinois Community College Teacher of the Year.

He has been named three times as Who’s Who among America’s Teachers. Also, once as Who’s Who in America and last Fall of 2018, has received the Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award.

His Sober Spring series is a story of a family in Wisconsin struggling with an alcoholic father. It starts out with the mother coming to grips with the fact that her husband doesn’t just drink a lot, but that he has an addiction. She then must convince members of her immediate and extended family not only that he has a problem, but also that they can be part of his getting better.

All seven of the stories in the series involve the Brandt family and continues through their growth and development as a family and as individuals. As so often happens in recovery people become less egocentric and more concerned about helping others. The series combines the reality of recovery with vivid and exciting characters and subplots – allowing the reader to experience the dysfunction of addiction through entertaining and page-turning books. With the Sober Spring series, Bollendorf showcases his approach to recovery by Fighting Addiction with Fiction.

As a teacher at the College of DuPage in the Human Services Department, Bollendorf would use his books as supplements to textbooks in his classes. He often marveled at how differently students responded to his books as opposed to the texts.

A reflection on Autumn Snow. “So here I am again, thanking you for making a difference with your writing. Guiding along through my process of healing. Just like Scott I know my friend lives on in my heart and memories. I have talked to many people since he’s passed and although everyone tries to help, I know that one day I have to stop pretending that everything is okay, and let go. These books have helped me throughout my process. I have felt a wide range of emotions while reading and I don’t think anyone could have done that for me. I’m grateful to have met an amazing teacher and writer, and I will never forget your work and guidance.”
